Servant Leadership - Walking the walk...

If Jesus didn’t come to be served he came to serve, shouldn’t we have that same kind of mindset as well? Here at High Point Supply Co. we love following Jesus’ example and getting involved in the community around us!

As believers, we know we are commanded to serve others around us just like Christ did. ‘Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. (Romans 12:1)’. I believe that a great way for you to know us better, is to see the different ways we are involved in the community and hear our view on the importance of getting involved and serving others.

Here are a few questions our staff has answered about our own community involvement.

Hannah Taylor-

  1. Why do you think it is important to serve?

Serving those around us is not only a command by Jesus, “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.”  (1 Peter 4:10), but it is also the best way to show love to someone. It is love in action! We are called to bear one another’s burdens and I think serving is one way that you can do that. Serving others makes you feel good too!

  1. When did you start getting involved with serving at Watermark and the Porch?

I moved here from Florida not knowing anyone besides my boss and co-workers (all of whom were older than I was and married). I quickly realized I was a 23-year-old who needed friends, but had no idea where to even meet people. As I was looking for a church home I wanted to find a place to serve as well. I tried Watermark about 4 years ago for the first time and fell in love with it. I soon after began serving at the Porch. The community I found at Watermark was so comforting and exactly what I needed in my life.

  1. When was a time that someone served you? What did that mean to you?

In my 4 years of living in Dallas, I have moved every year to a new apartment/house. My community group from church has held packing parties for each time that I have moved. It is such a blessing to have people that are willing to do life with you!

MacKenzie Korsi-

  1. Being a student in college, how has being involved in Watermark changed your college experience?

Being a member at Watermark has been the single most influential aspect of my college experience. I’ve been a member since my freshman year, and since then, the Lord has used the Watermark College Ministry, community group, serving in Starting Blocks, and re:generation (Watermark’s recovery ministry) to draw me to Himself and show me that life to the full is truly only found in Him.

  1. What is something you would want incoming freshmen to know about getting involved?

Just get involved! Sincerely, you will find true joy, fellowship, and life when you come to know the Lord! For Watermark College specifically, sign up for Launch U – our college retreat over Labor Day weekend. I cannot begin to explain how FUN it is – sign up and see for yourself so you don’t have to take my word for it. Follow @watermarkcollege on Instagram to see what else we’re up to, and then show up at one of our events – I hope to meet you!

  1. Tell us about one of the best memories you have had while being a part of Watermark!

Legitimately there are too many to count. But last year, at LaunchU, we had the best dance party EVER! It’s hard to describe if you weren’t there, but we were all jammed into this tiny room in island gear (the theme was Island Party), dancing and singing at the top of our lungs for hours. I don’t think I’ve laughed that hard or smiled for that long any other time in my life.

We hope that reading about some of the ways that we are involved in the community around us not only makes you feel like you know us a little more, but encourages you to really see the importance of serving in your community! We highly encourage you to step out and get involved in any way that you can. Not only will you see how you can change the community around you, but you will see how giving to others really does give back!
