OUR IMPACT IN ETHIOPIA
IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CONNECTED IN HOPE
Through our parternship with Connected in Hope every CIH product sold provides a susatinable income to an impoverished man or woman in Ethiopia. All of the CIH items are hand made in Ethiopia by men and women who are former fuel-wood carriers. Over the years these dedicated individuals have been trained to weave scarves, baskets, & leather goods as a way to help them better their lives & communities. CIH offers training, funding for raw materials, and providse a sustainable, predictable income to over 75 spinners, weavers, seamstresses, and cotton dyers. Their products go toward their 4 empowerment programs; economic empowerment, pre-school kindergarten schooling, family preservation, & healthcare program.
Connected in Hope operates an innovative Preschool and Kindergarten in the Shiro Meda area of Addis Ababa, just up the road from our weaving compound. Students are provided with uniforms, supplies, medical services, nutritious meals and snacks. In addition to the early childhood programs, they offer adult literacy classes and monthly community education programs on topics like hygiene and hand washing, nutrition and child development. Many of the parents also have the opportunity to participate in our income development programs.
